LTC William Douglas Cook, 88, of Lynchburg (formerly of Colonial Heights) died Saturday, January 7, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife, Iris Dunnavant Cook.
William was born, August 25, 1923 in Decatur, Alabama, a son of the late Henry T. Cook and the late Fannie Holland Cook. William proudly served his country in the U. S. Army for 41 ½ years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, American Legion Post 284, VFW, Reserved Officers Association and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.
In addition to his wife, Iris, he is survived by a son, William Douglas Cook, Jr.; his grandchildren: Melody Cook Prochazka and husband, Bill and Graham Kendall Cook; one great-grandchild: Elizabeth Grace Anne Prochazka.
A Graveside service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday January 10, 2012 in the mausoleum at Southlawn Memorial Park in Petersburg with full military honors and the Rev. Andy Brockelman officiating.
