William Edward McRorie passed on to eternal life on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Born in Rutherfordton, NC on April 8, 1940. He was 75 years old. He has permanently joined his heavenly father and his parents, Cyrus and Rosalie McRorie.
Growing up, he lived in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Greensboro, NC as well as Norfolk, VA. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he completed law school and became the fourth generation in his family to serve as an attorney. William served as general counsel for First Colony Life Insurance Company for 31 years and was active in his private law practice. He served as a board member and/or legal counsel for many civic and non-profit organizations. Active in local politics, he served on the Lynchburg City Council and also served as Vice Mayor. He came out of retirement to serve as General Counsel for Liberty University for a brief time. He wanted to serve the people in Lynchburg. He enjoyed reading and yard work at his home, Brookside, and his family farm in North Carolina. He was also a vintage car and tractor enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hope Foster McRorie, son, Mark Edward McRorie and his wife, Becky, daughter, Jennifer Lynn Mumford and her husband, Rusty, three grandchildren, Harper Jackson McRorie, Caroline Grace Mumford, and Catherine Ruby Mumford, and a brother Charles Winston McRorie and wife, Alice.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2 at 1PM at the Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel – located at one Mountain View Road, Lynchburg, VA. Family will be available for visitation from 6 to 8 pm Sunday November 1,2015. at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following organizations in the memory of William Edward McRorie: Richland Creek Special Needs Ministry – 3229 Burlington Mills Rd. Wake Forest, NC 27587 and Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home – PO Box 1398, Brookneal, VA 24528.
