William Henry Overstreet

William Henry Overstreet (Bill) of Bedford went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday October 4, 2013, after a long battle with lung cancer.

Bill was the son of Richard Davis and Bernice Roberta Woodson Overstreet Thomas, brother of Richard Davis Overstreet, Jr. and Carolyn Overstreet Croft, all who have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife Edna Williams Overstreet.

He is survived by his nephew, Dale Croft and Dale\"™s girlfriend, Judy Tuck. He is also survived by his longtime partner in life, Margaret Logwood, and her family all of whom he loved as his own. mother: Geraldine McConnell, children: , Sherril Stilwell & husband Greg, Darrel Gallier, & wife Stacey, Stephanie Micklem & Partner Ronnie Adams and Sheldon Logwood, grandchildren: Justin Stilwell & wife Ashley, Corey Stilwell, Michael Gallier, Ashley Gallier, Brandon Viar, Paige Viar, Summer Micklem, Christian Micklem, Kaiden Logwood, and great-grandchildren: Jacob Stilwell and Autumn Stilwell. He leaves behind his band members/friends Ron Wood, Jack Morrison and Jimmy Bobbitt, their wives, and band member/friend Jeff Helgeson. In addition, he is survived by many cousins and friends.

Bill was an employee of Rubatex for over 33 years. He was a retired corrections officer from the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority\"™s Moneta Adult Detention Center. He attended Grace Baptist Church.

Born August 3, 1946, Bill grew up in Wheat\"™s Valley and was a self-taught musician. He started playing at the age of fourteen and learned to play many instruments. Over the years he had the privilege of playing and singing for many events throughout the Central Virginia area. He had dreams of teaching and playing lots of music for many more years but God had a greater plan for him. He is now enjoying Heaven\"™s music which is more beautiful than any he has ever heard before.

Bill would like to especially thank everyone who assisted him during his long bout with cancer. Thanks go out to those who drove him to Philadelphia for his clinical trial, Cousin, Dickie Martin, Friends, George McDaniel, James Stanton, Jack Morrison and Ronnie Adams. Thanks to the Hope Lodge, James\"™ Cousin and Friends of the Hospital for lodging. A special thanks to Glenn Metzl for taking him to treatments and being by his side until he was called home.

A visitation will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 337 Lakeview Drive, Madison Heights, Va. 24572. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. on Monday, October 7, 2013, at Grace Baptist Church, with Pastor Dan Lee officiating. Interment will be at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1118 Ebenezer Road, Bedford, VA 24523.
