William King Mcdonald

William King McDonald, 65, of Lynchburg, died on Saturday, January 30, 2010.  Bill was born in Henderson, NC on January 22, 1945, a son of the late Daniel James McDonald and the late Bettie King McDonald.  Bill is survived by his wife, Rosemary Fisher McDonald.

Bill never met a stranger and he was loved by all who knew him, especially children, who were drawn to his gentle spirit.  He had a reputation for being one of the kindest, most gentle-hearted men God ever created.  (It was no accident that his mother often called him \"Sweet William.\")  He was a wonderful husband and father and was thrilled by the arrival of his first grandchild in December.  Bill loved his siblings and their families in his encouraging and supportive manner.  He never ended a phone conversation with loved ones without expressing his love and saying, \"God bless.\"  Bill loved the beauty of God\"™s creation, where he pursued hobbies of canoeing, walking the Blackwater Creek and Appalachian trails and finding waterfalls to enjoy.  He was never too busy to lend a helping hand.  His smile lit up a room and made all who saw it feel welcome.  He had a most inquisitive mind and loved to learn new things.  He and Rosemary loved most of all just spending time together, whether at home or travelling.  Bill loved his Lord and took great comfort in his relationship with Him.  He knew God\"™s word and once said in an interview that the person he most wanted to meet was Jesus Christ.  On a snowy evening with family by his side, Bill was lifted gently and quietly into the arms of Jesus where he found peaceful rest.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his son Shawn McDonald, his wife Samantha and their daughter Elise of Lynchburg; by his son Colin McDonald of Brandon, FL; by his brother Jim McDonald (wife Marcia) of Raleigh, NC, his son Spencer McDonald (wife Caroline and daughter Jordan) and daughter Ashley McDonald; by his sister, Jean Apple (husband Bob) of Highpoint, NC, and their daughters Danielle Stringer (husband Garrett and son Griffin), Courtney Bown (husband Jim and daughter Sara) and Amber Caviness (husband Chad and son Caleb); by his brother Tom McDonald and his son Davis and daughter Emma; by his sister Beverly Stables (husband Lou) of Charlotte, NC, and their daughters Katie Cuthbertson (husband Bart and sons Stephen, Brian and Shane) and Julie Boudrie (daughters Hailey and Emma), and their son Drew Stables (wife Kristen and son Aaron and daughters Allie and Jenna); and by his sister Suzi McDonald of Thomasville, NC and her son David.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, VES Road, Lynchburg with the Rev.
