William Landry Painter

August 22, 2007 — August 5, 2017

William Landry Painter passed away on Saturday, August the 5th, 2017, just 2 weeks before his 10th birthday.

He was with friends, family, and loved ones while on a weekend vacation at a special family home in Virginia.

William is the son of Carrie Bergeron Painter and William Edward “Rusty” Painter. He is survived by his parents, younger brother, Benjamin, two grandmothers, Karen Painter and Joanne Bergeron, two great grandparents, Evelyn Landry Pagnotto and Alphonse Pagnotto, two aunts, Amy and Emily Painter, uncle and aunt, Scott and Stacy Bergeron, cousins, Madison and Dylan Bergeron and many friends and loved ones who knew him to be a most thoughtful, compassionate, sensitive, and kind-hearted young man.

William Painter’s infectious smile and puffy hair won him many compliments, but it was his loving heart and gentle soul for which he will be most affectionately remembered. William loved his family, and was loved beyond measure. He enjoyed trips and outings with his family, dog walks with his Grandma, swimming in Grammy’s pool, building Legos with his father, fishing with his brother, reading with his mother, playing baseball, basketball, tennis and soccer with his friends, and eating ice cream with anyone, at any time. His inquisitive nature and enthusiasm were matched by his sensitivity, compassion, and just the right amount of silliness.

We will all miss this beautiful spirit who touched so many during his short, but rich life. He is now entrusted to the safekeeping of his two beloved grandfathers who passed away last year. William graced this world with his beautiful spirit during his short, but rich life and the heavens shine brighter for his presence.

The family will have a celebration of his life at The Pit BBQ in Durham. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local public school. William often worried about his classmates who did not have adequate school supplies. He also loved the teachers at E.K. Powe Elementary School and a fund is being established in his memory for teacher enrichment and training. You can make a tax-deductible donation to the “William Painter Teacher Enrichment Fund” by sending a check to E.K. Powe PTA, 913 9th Street, Durham, NC 27705 and enter “William Painter” in the memo line or visit https://www.ekpowe.org/donate/
