William Mackey

William Gerald \"Jerry\" Mackey, 82, of Moneta, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his residence. Born in Columbus, Ohio on November 17, 1928, a son of the late Terrance Mackey and Frieda Flannagan Mackey. In addition to his parents Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, John Mackey; and a sister, Mercedes Perez.

Jerry served our country in the United States Army from 1945 \"" 1987. While in the army he served many different roles such as Chief Warrant Officer and a GS12 as a civil service officer. He was a member of Smith Mountain Lake Pilots club and he was an avid gun collector.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Judy Mackey; a son Dr. Steven Mackey and his wife, Zahala; a granddaughter, Alissa Mackey; one sister, Mary Joan Mackey; sister-in-law Mary Jane Mackey, his two very special four legged friends, Sammy and Buddy Roo; also numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jerry\"™s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10:00 until 11:00am. Arrangements by Tharp funeral home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
