William Robert Mattingly

On the 1st of March year of our Lord 2018, William Robert Mattingly passed away at his home in southwest Roanoke, VA.
Born in Hogansville, Georgia in 1940, he joined the United States Marine Corps at age 17, serving three tours in Vietnam before retiring to attend George Mason University. While there, he met Elisabeth Ann Flint who he married and together they had two children, Patrick Maurice Winslow Mattingly and William Robert Michael Mattingly.
Mr. Mattingly is survived by Elisabeth Ann, as well as both of his sons, and his grandson, Matthew. There are many others who love and will miss him, including his brothers Herman Mattingly and Roy Mattingly, his sisters Rose Mary Mattingly Brown and Martha Mattingly, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Roanoke is assisting the family.
