William Russel Knight

On Friday, January, 13, 2012, Bill (Blue Knight, Rent-a- Cop, Poppy, Pops) lost his long battle with the ravages of diabetes, heart and kidney disease. While he may have lost the battle, he won the war and is now healthy and at peace with his Savior and is enjoying a happy reunion with his infant son, William Jay (Jay) Knight who went to heaven on March 17, 1978.

Bill was born on September 9, 1951, the son of Juanita Todd Knight and James Knight of Reynoldsville, WV, both of whom predeceased him. In addition to his son and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia.

Bill loved children. After the death of their son, he and his wife, Cynthia (Cyndi) took in a total of 19 foster children, two of whom\""James and Michael\""they happily adopted into their family. While his health allowed, Bill enjoyed bowling, fishing\""but rarely caught anything\""and golf. He could really hit the ball far but never knew where it would go!

He met his wife while attending Fairmont State College, where he was studying mechanical drafting. He and his wife celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on January 8th.

Bill proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

He worked in various trades but found his greatest pleasure in security and private detective work, even owning his own security firm until his health began to fail.

In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by a brother, Draper, and two sisters, Melissa and Peggy all of West Virginia, 7 grandchildren\""DaKota Kidd, Noah and Rileigh Franklin, Thomas, Bennett, Kalie Knight, and Jaden Lotts, numerous nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law and father-in-law  Iva and Millard  English of Martinsburg, West Virginia, two brothers-in-law Bennett English of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Tim Swiger of Reynoldsville, West Virginia; and a very special friend, Jason Balwin.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice, for all the care and support they provided for the last 18 months, and the doctors and staff of Lynchburg Nephrology Physicians, Lynchburg Family Physicians, Lynchburg Family Physicians, and Drs. David Truitte and  Lisa Wisniewski.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2012, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Tharp Funeral.
