William Walton Clarkson was born July 6, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to James Lewis Clarkson and Jane Speck Clarkson and was named for his grandfathers, David William Speck and Benjamin Walton Clarkson. He died Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Lynchburg, VA.

Bill graduated from Millboro High School, attended the University of Virginia, graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) and worked for Montague-Betts Company until 1992. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Baptist Hospital Auxiliary (Pearson Cancer Center), Sigma Chi, Phi Kappa Phi and APSBGW.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, the former Elizabeth Burks from Bedford. His daughter, Jane Lewis Clarkson Moore lives in Greenville, NC and has three sons, Brennan Harold Moore, Tyler William Moore, and Cullen Burks Moore. His son William Walton Clarkson, Jr. and wife Mary Pappas Clarkson, live in St. Louis, MO and have three children, Anna Elizabeth Clarkson, John Gray Clarkson, and Thomas William Clarkson. He was predeceased by a brother, James Lewis Clarkson, Jr. Other than a few cousins, that’s all – no dogs, not cats.

There will be a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 1215 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA, 2 PM Saturday, February 21, 2015, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Fred Holbrook and the Rev. Dr. John Scholer.

Bill requested no flowers or memorials but instead asked that you honor a friend who is still living.
