William Dabney “Bill” Woods

William Dabney “Bill” Woods, 89, of Pedlar Mills, Virginia passed away on January 8, 2024. He was the son of Edward Ashby Woods, Sr., and Gladys Hooten Woods. 

Bill was born on May 14, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia.  He graduated from Madison Heights High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College.  He then continued to pursue a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.  Bill served in the United States Air Force for four years. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorcas Ann Woods.  He is also survived by his nieces, Ellen Demperio (Mike) of Atlanta, Georgia, Elizabeth LeBel (Rick) also of Atlanta, Georgia, and Belle Saddler (Latham) of Birmingham, Alabama.

Bill enjoyed farming the land in Pedlar Mills and working jigsaw puzzles with Dorcas.  He was an avid reader, especially books about war and airplanes.  In his younger days, he enjoyed the thrill of riding motorcycles across the country as well as flying all types of airplanes. 

The family would also sincerely like to thank Bill’s longtime friend, Donald Brown.

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Edward Ashby Woods, Jr. (Dorothy) and James Clifford Woods.

A graveside service will be held at St. Lukes Episcopal Church Cemetery in Monroe, Virginia on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
