Willie Joseph Arrington, Jr., 77, of Rocky Mount died Saturday, September 3, 2011, at the Franklin Health & Rehab Center. Born Sunday, March 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Willie Joseph Arrington, Sr. and Minnie Bates Arrington. He was the loving husband of his late wife, Joyce Sloan Arrington, for 55 years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Arrington; four brothers, Lorenzo Arrington, Marvin Arrington, Tom Arrington and Vernard (Bunny) Arrington; three sisters, Dorothy Cundiff , Bernice Loudermilk and Ruth Kidman.
Willie was a career \"gear jammer\" his entire life and was well known by the handle \"Bigfoot.\" He was passionate about his family and those close to him.
He is survived by five sons, Joseph B. Arrington and significant other, Debbie, of Wirtz, David L. Arrington and significant other, Gloria, of Ruckersville, Mark D. Arrington and wife, Lettie, of Gordonsville, Willie A. Arrington and Johnny R. Muncey, both of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dave Arrington and Abery (O.J.) Arrington; and one sister, Barbara Kidman; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Ivy Christian Church Cemetery, Moneta, with Rick Arrington and David Oliver officiating. Family and friends are welcome after the service at the home of Bill Arrington.
