Wilson Lee Gilliland, 80, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, February 12, 2015. He was the husband of Margaret Douthat Gilliland for 55 years.
Born Saturday, September 8, 1934 in Charlotte County, VA; Buddy was a son of the late James Bates Gilliland and the late Annie Palmer Gilliland.
In addition to his wife, Buddy is survived by two sons: Barry Gilliland and his wife, Vickie, and David Gilliland and his wife, Glenna; two daughters: Laura Wiegert, and Teresa Bell and her husband, Larry; four grandchildren: Jacob Wiegert, Jennifer Ashburn, Haylee Bell, and Brandon Hartman, a great grandson Brayden Ashburn, a brother, John Gilliland and his wife, Mildred, a sister, Elizabeth Johnson, brother in-laws, David Douthat and his wife, Sue, and Ritchie Douthat, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his siblings: Edith Doss, Hettie Buckley, James Gilliland, Laura Carey, William Gilliland, and Mabel Derbin.

A celebration of Wilson’s life will be conducted at 12 PM on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mack Almond and John Sines, Jr. officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
