Winelda Ruby Wahl Lane (Win), 89, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, February 25, 2018. She was the wife of the late Roger Franklin Lane, for 52 years.
Born Sunday, January 06, 1929 in New Hampton, Iowa, Winelda was a daughter of the late Will Wahl and the late Emma Wahl.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Winelda was preceded in death by her sisters, Wilma Clara Wahl Maklenburg and Willetta Mildred Wahl Hilgendorf, and a brother, Wendell James Wahl.
Winelda is survived by her brother, William Wilber (Bill) Wahl of New Hampton, Iowa; her children, Patricia Kay Evans, and her husband, Thomas, Robert William Lane and his wife, Betty, Janet Renee McGraw and her husband, David, Joanne Marie Lane, Mary Lou Lane, and Richard Kevin Lane (Ina); grandchildren, Thomas DeWitt Evans, III (Dana), Linda Kay Evans (Doug), Patricia Ann Evans (Walter), Christie Lynn Evans (Alan), Timothy William Lane (Jenny), SSgt Rebecca Anne Lane, USAF (Cody) and Nicole Nicholas (Mike); great-grandchildren, Madison, Brooklyn, Dylan, and Sydney Evans; Tyson and Macy Lane, and Ethan, Garrett and Memphis Nicholas and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her canine companion, Fannie.
Winelda worked at the Abstract Office in New Hampton, Iowa, then for WMT Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After raising her family, she returned to work at Lynchburg Gas Company in Lynchburg, Virginia becoming manager of customer service and then assistant vice president, in which capacity she worked until her retirement. Winelda was active in the American Business Women’s Association and a number of other organizations.
A celebration of Winelda’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, with the Reverend Doug Gunsalus officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m., Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
