Woodrow \"Woodie\" Lawrence Hennessey, 94, of Lynchburg died Sunday September 5, 2010. He was the devoted husband of Wanda Lee Kern Hennessey for 61 years.
Woodie was born September 17, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late John Joseph Hennessey and Kjersten Aanonsen Hennessey. Woodie proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, and finally retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. He also retired as a Planning Engineer with Consolidated Edison of New York after 42 years of service.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters; Pamela Sutera (James) of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Marjo Hennessey of Evington, four grandchildren; Joseph Basilone (Melissa), Nicholas Sutera, Christopher Schmitt, and Erica Hochberg (Sam), three great grandchildren; Liam and Evan Basilone, and Celia Hochberg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Edward and John Clifford Hennessey, and two sisters; Viola Harnes and Dorothy Hennessey.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
