Wylene Cunningham Shields

Wylene Cunningham Shields, 76, of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024. She was the loving wife of Darrell Glenn Shields for over 50 years.

Wylene was born in Madison Heights on May 4, 1948, and was a daughter of the late Claytis Cunningham and Lottie Wright Cunningham. Wylene was retired as an administrator from the insurance industry and was a lifelong member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Christiana Shields (and her fiancé Matthew Legner) of Madison Heights, a brother Sam Cunningham (Connie) of Madison Heights, nephews David Cunningham, Christopher Cunningham, niece Katina Cunningham, numerous great-nieces and great nephews; a sister-in-law Sandra Santini; and special friend Alice Shields. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew Michael Cunningham.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Wylene’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with W.T. Curd, III officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
