Knowing Xavier, Was to Love Him…
On October 11, 2020, Xavier’s smile, met God’s smile. God and His Angels warmly greeted Xavier home. What was unexpected to us, was known to God. Born on September 17, 1999, Xavier, affectionately known as “Zay,” accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 2014. Zay loved God and shared God’s word and excellence with everyone he could… family and friends. Xavier graduated from Portsmouth Christian School in 2019. Throughout his life journey, Zay loved basketball and had the opportunity to play AAU, excelled at Portsmouth Christian School, and experienced the collegiate level at Dean College. After graduation, Zay was accepted into 11 colleges. Zay’s life journey navigated him toward his recent acceptance into the Apprentice School at Norfolk Shipyard where he was set to begin in January 2021. Zay was currently employed at GreenMountain Coffee/Kuerig.
Zay was a gifted artist who enjoyed traveling with his parents, brother, girlfriend, and friends. He never met a stranger and he showed himself friendly to all. He had a full life, with amazing experiences. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dreametta Davis. Zay was nurtured by his parents, Sterling and Nicole Austin; a brother, Nicholas Austin; grandparents, Glenn and Ruth Austin, James and Audrey McCoy; a great-grandmother, Loletta Pinn; a great-godmother, Gwendolyn Campbell; aunts Jaime McCoy and Marguita Brown (Les); an uncle Leroy Austin (Sherika); and cousins who all cherished and loved him. The family knows in our hearts, that Zay pledged his love and heart to his long-time girlfriend, Dayja King.
Xavier studied God’s word and was seeking a greater relationship with the Father. He was growing in wisdom and grace. Zay wanted others to know Christ like he did. By age 21, Zay’s life spoke for itself. His gentle, big smile, tall, humble, and quiet spirit was bold for Christ. God loaned him to us for just a while. His purpose was fulfilled. We loved him deeply, God loved him best.
A celebration of Xavier’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Tree of Life Ministries at 11 a.m. He will lie in repose for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Burial Park.
Zay left us with wonderful memories and overflowing hearts…
Zay’s impact was far-reaching…he was a seed, planted firmly in good soil…
Xavier’s Favorite Verse…
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
– Galatians 2:20
