David Anthony Vance

David Anthony “Tony” Vance, 51, of Huddleston, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, George Vance; grandmother, Josephine Kendall and a great-grandmother, Carrie “Mag” Whalen.

Tony lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time on Smith Mountain Lake where he called home. He loved fishing, gardening, helping others with no expectation of anything in return, and most of all loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved children and took in and helped many friends that his son, Tyler brought home. Tony served his country in the United States Army and was so proud of being a veteran. He was also very proud of being in the nursing profession and most recently being a Nursing Supervisor for Catawba Hospital.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Vance; mother, Katherine Vance; three children, Tyler Vance and his girlfriend, Amethyst Ettinger, Kalyn O’Connor and her husband, Jesse and Christian Carter and his girlfriend, Olivia Simpson; Siblings, Matthew Vance and his girlfriend, Christine, Nathaniel Vance, Anna-Liza Vance and significant other Antwyn Calfee, Shannon Vance and his wife, Marisol and Jesse Antrikin and his wife, Shaunna; Special kids who he loved as his own, Earl Dooley and Tess Hilton; Uncle, Keith Kendall; Aunt, Mary Kendall and her boyfriend, Tim Tuggle; Mother-in-law, Verlie Wilhelm; brother-in-law, Tim Wilhelm and fiancé, Candace Justice. Also, numerous nieces, nephews and so many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Staunton Baptist Church.

A memorial service and celebration of Tony’s life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Staunton Baptist Church with Pastor Buzz Offenbacker officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm.

Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, is assisting the family.

What a wonderful man Tony was. Tony was a friend to so many and we we always remember how very special he was to our family. Praying for the family!

I have worked with Tony for years in the placing of Patients at Catawba Hospital He and I had many conversations regarding Mental Health and treatment and current issues. I am so saddened by his sudden loss and my Prayers are with all Family, Friends and Loved Ones.

I had the privilege of working at Centra Bedford Memorial the same time Tony was in the ER. He had a great sense of humor and was a good nurse! Deepest sympathy and prayers for his family.
