David Crickenberger

August 19, 1961 - July 4, 2022

David Alan Crickenberger, 61, of Madison Heights Virginia passed away July 4, 2022. David was born August 19, 1961, in Newport News, VA.  He was son of the late Earling T and Marie M Crickenberger both of Newport News, Va.

David left us after a lifelong battle from the devastating effects and illness of a brain tumor since the age of fourteen.  David was a fighter! Given only a life span of 5 years after the diagnostic and treatment of the brain tumor David fought and fought for an additional 42 years. David fought many battles, but he didn’t win the war just as none of in the end will. Nobody beats the clock. So, love your family and your friends and most of all love each other. In the end It is all we have.

David was deeply loved by many, especially his brother Jeff who cared from him for over 37 years. Many will say that David was lucky to have a brother like me, but in fact, I was lucky to have a brother like David. Davis was helped, cared, and loved by many from the private caregivers to the staff of Horizons Behavioral Health Altavista and Madison Heights, VA they cared for David over the last few years as he fought battle after battle.

David loved the outdoors; he loved his TV shows and card playing. He loved to make people laugh and loved goofing off. He had a determination to do what he wanted to do despite his limitations.

Now he’s gone. Our grief knows no words. David will be missed and will continue to be missed immensely.

David however will live on in the life of others through being a donor. He will help an estimated 52 people. David will help burn patients. He will help others see and walk because of tissue, bone, vein, and cornea donor transplants that can help others move better, see better, and live better. Let that be a mission of us towards others, to help others live better.

A gathering of Family and friends will be held at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory in Madison Heights, Virginia on Saturday July 16, 2022 at 6 PM.

Everyone is welcome to come and say bye to David even if you didn’t know him. I wish that you had.

Condolences & Tributes

Celebrate David's life with a short message, photo or video!

I never met David, but I feel like I knew him through Jeff and his many visits to our home as the PC Doc. Jeff did not say a lot about it, but it was evident that he took care of his brother in all things great and small! As described by Jeff in the obit, they made each other better and stronger. What more can one do for a loved one?! I have great admiration and respect for Jeff!! My condolences to you my friend on the loss of your brother. I wish I had known him directly -- that is my loss! May David rest in peace now........ Bill (and Nancy) Blackwell Midlothian, VA
