Lewis Stevens III

March 30, 1971 - May 7, 2023

Lewis Gilbert Stevens III passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long illness. Born in Lynchburg, Va. on March 30, 1971, he was the son of Lewis “LG” Stevens, Jr. of Lynchburg, and Mable Martin Stevens of Forest.Lewis is survived by a devoted sister, Marguerite “Beth” Stevens Graham and brother-in-law, Alan Graham of Williamsburg; two nephews, William and Jack Graham, and a niece, Marion “Meg” Elizabeth Graham of Williamsburg. He is also survived by numerous loving cousins.Lewis graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1991. He left us at an early age on Sunday at 2 a.m. to enter heaven. We thank God for easing his misery. He had a difficult life living with a traumatic brain injury, a speech impairment, and a diagnosis of diabetes at the age of 16. Later in life he required dialysis 3-4 times a week. Despite these disadvantages, Lewis was always thankful for what God allowed him to do. He loved to drive his car, wearing baseball caps, playing with dogs, and giving them too many treats. He especially enjoyed his time at Daily Bread. He loved football, always showed excitement buying birthday and Christmas gifts for his mom, nephews, and niece who he adored. He loved them so much! Lewis was outgoing and loved people. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. It was a great joy for him to offer rides to his friends for appointments, work, or the store. He will be missed dearly by his family, who are so thankful he’s no longer in pain and now enjoying his time with God.A celebration of Lewis’ life will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lynchburg Daily Bread, 721 Clay Street, Lynchburg, Va., or American Diabetes Association @ www.diabetes.org.
