Patricia Ann Casey Healy
Patricia Ann Casey Healy, born on August 7, 1932, in Washington, DC to James Patrick and Helen Ann Casey, died peacefully on December 22, 2022, at her home in Lynchburg, VA. She lived a life of faith, family, friendship, fashion, and football.
Patricia graduated from Dumbarton College of The Holy Cross, Washington, DC, in 1954. Her gift for friendship was clear on graduation day when she wrote, “I hope that we are always the best of friends.” And so they remained along with the many other friends she embraced throughout her life.
Patricia married Joseph Francis Healy, Jr., from New York City, in 1955. They settled in Washington, DC, and had six children: James Casey, Timothy Joseph, Kevin Patrick, Cathleen Moira, Mary Kett, and Terence Michael.
Patricia focused on raising her children while her husband built a successful career in aviation and corporate law. With her flair for fashion, it was no surprise that Patricia went on to become a personal stylist at Garfinkle’s in Washington, DC, and later at The Gazebo in Winston-Salem, NC. Patricia knew what was fashionable and how to fit an individual’s style.
Patricia was a lifelong, devoted Washington Redskins fan. As a young girl, she was with her parents at the “Most Forgotten Football Game” against the Philadelphia Eagles on December 7, 1941, a date that lives in infamy, the attack on Pearl Harbor. Years later, Patricia attended all of the Redskins Super Bowl games except for the 1992 victory against the Buffalo Bills—That year she gave the tickets to her son Timothy who had friends playing on both teams.
Patricia was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph. She is survived by her six children and 8 grandchildren. As William Shakespeare wrote, “A grandma’s name is little less in love than is the doting title of a mother.”
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
