Grover Cleveland Youngblood Jr.
Grover Cleveland Youngblood Jr., 98, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Ruth Harrell Youngblood for 66 years prior to her death in 2016.
Grover is survived by his daughter, Sarah Y. Heideman, and son-in-law, Kurt G. Heideman, of Lynchburg, VA. Also surviving are his three grandchildren: Kevin H. Heideman (wife Alison Reynolds), Rachel D. Heideman, and Mark E. Heideman, all of Richmond, VA.
Born on October 27, 1924, in Wilsons Mills, North Carolina, Grover was the only child of Grover C. Youngblood Sr, and Ora Mae Ellis Youngblood. He attended Campbell College for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the war, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at the University of Richmond. He was an audit manager for Travelers Insurance Company for 40 years, assigned to offices in Richmond VA, Toledo OH, Knoxville TN, and Nashville TN.
Grover and Margaret Ruth relocated from Nashville to Lynchburg in 2000 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, and never missed a baseball game or band concert. After they moved to The Summit in 2008, Grover was active with the Residents Council and Worship Committee. A faithful, life-long Christian, he was an ordained Elder, and especially enjoyed participating in church mission projects. Most recently he was a member of Forest Presbyterian Church and was well known for always having a joke to share (the cornier the better!)
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Forest Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. A light reception will follow in the church commons.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Forest Presbyterian Church, 1226 Two Church Lane, Forest, VA 24551.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
