Jean Frye Tweedy

December 30, 1925 - February 2, 2023

Jean Frye Tweedy, 97, daughter of Lonnie and Rosa Bell Frye, was born, raised and enjoyed a long, lovely hometown life in Lynchburg. She passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023.

Jean was the deeply loving, awesome cooking, always caring, and great vegetable garden helper wife of Malcolm ‘Jack’ Tweedy. She was a delighted in-law to Ny Campbell, the marvelous other mother to niece Judith Caldwell, a fun filled grandmother to grand-nephew Adam Wells, and super big sister to niece Betty Wooldridge.  She was blessed with many wonderful friends– her acquired family. She was especially thankful for Marie Hall, Peggy Martinez, Terry Mason and Kay and Bennie Smith whose caretaking, love and devotion made her last weeks the best they could be.

Jean began her career as an office assistant at Nehi (she loved that orange soda), then Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, then as Senior Clerk in Purchasing at Limitorque. Retirement put her at Wendy’s almost daily for fun lunch gatherings. Jean was known for that mischievous bright twinkle in her eyes, her playful nature, her amazing memory, and her incredibly wry, sharp, clever sense of humor—teeming with the most amusing stories, jokes, sayings, and verses. Gifts of joy, laughter, wisdom, and insight that she bestowed on us all.

Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday February 17, 2023, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Ave, Lynchburg.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given by the staff at Centra Hospice, Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, please share a favorite Jean memory and/or give to a charity that will love on Jean’s cherished hometown.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.

Thank you, Jean, for your friendship. It was my good fortune to meet you in July of 1976 when I came to work at Limitorque. We shared many good times filled with laughter. Your quick wit and humor were unparalleled. You were a devoted friend and a good listener, and I am thankful for the times we shared. I am one of the lucky ones whose life was touched by this very special woman. Though many will miss her, we remain grateful still for having known her. Farewell my friend, until we meet again. - Judy Martin

At Golden Corral - March 2021

I just learned of my friend Jean’s passing at age 97. I always thought she’d make it to 100. Jean was a really special lady. I usually saw her at Wendy’s, Captain D’s, or Golden Corral. She was a delight! We so enjoyed talking while sharing a meal with Jean. She had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. My heart goes out to her niece who she often spoke of fondly. I’m so glad I met this wonderful lady and could spend a bit of time with her from time to time. Love, Jan and Keith Holloran. ❤️
