Patricia Ramsey Downey

Patricia Ramsey Downey passed away on February 12, 2023. She was born on April 29, 1944, to the late James and Elsie Ramsey. She was the loving wife of James Downey, Jr. for 60 years. She fought a long battle with Alzheimers but is finally now at peace.

Patricia loved all things adventure and lived a very full life with so many friends made along the way. She was a teacher at heart for which her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others will remember her always.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son-in-law, Hubert Vasser; grandchildren, Nathan Vasser (Danielle), Keri Brooks (Jeff), and James Vasser; great-grandchildren, Mason Brooks, Gunner Vasser, and Ryan Vasser.

A celebration of life will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.

So many wonderful Memories on Sunset Hill. I spent so much time with her and Jennifer. I was just thinking of all of you last week. Sure do miss those days. Condolences to the family.

My sincere condolences to the Downey family. I met Pat when I started teaching at Bedford Elementary. She was such a kind and talented person. We became friends and after she left the school, I would occasionly see her with her husband at the Lynchburg Market. She will always remain in my memories as a friend.May you rest in peace Pat.

I remember Pat fondly. We worked together at Bedford Elementary School. She cares deeply for the kids she worked with. She has a special gift.

Jimmy, My mom, Lillie Ramsey Ledbetter and her five children send our love and condolences to you and your family. Mom is the last living sibling of Hughlet, Patsy's dad. She will be 97 in a few days and she wanted you to know she was sorry about Patsy. We have great memories of the Ramsey reunions. Praying for you and your family to have peace. I remember patsy at BI elementary. Also, I have spent many days the last couple of years , with patsy. Her and my mom were roommates. Mom passed last week. They are together again. ❤️

Patsy was a special lady. I knew her at Bedford Elementary and Middle when I taught music and she was a teacher’s aide. She was the consummate Girl Scout. I loved seeing her at the city Market many a Saturday. RIP, dear friend.
