Samuel Kovey Rogers

July 26, 2002 - November 30, 2021

Jesus welcomed our beloved, talented, selfless, funny, Samuel Kovey Rogers, 19, of Lynchburg, Virginia, into heaven on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Samuel was truly a gift and was the much-loved son of Ronnie William Rogers, Jr., and Tammy Tomlin Rogers. He was brother and best friend to William Rogers.

Samuel was born on July 26, 2002, in Lynchburg, Virginia.  He attended Liberty Christian Academy for 13 years and graduated in 2020. He was a student at Liberty University and was continuing to follow God’s calling in ministry.

Samuel was a member of Waymaker Church and loved his role as a member of the church praise and worship team. Samuel was passionate about playing guitar and his music ministry. He loved nature, cooking, funny hats, cool shoes and the color purple. Samuel was a truth seeker in all areas of life.  His passion was to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ by being bold in his actions to make sure that every person he met knew of the love of Jesus.  He faithfully studied the Word of God with his favorite book being Hebrews.

In addition to his parents and brother, Samuel is survived by his beloved Nan, Evelyn S. Tomlin who always knew he was called to ministry; uncle, Neil Tomlin; aunt, Terry Lanham (Reid); and many close cousins. Samuel was blessed with loving friends both at LCA, LU and Waymaker Church.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at Waymaker Church, 1650 Hooper Rd. Forest, VA. A Celebration of Samuel’s life will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 5 PM at Waymaker Church with Pastor Jon Dupin officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Waymaker Church, WayYouth Ministry where Samuel served, or Waymaker Mosaic Ministry.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.

I never knew Samuel, though we share the same birthday and we both play guitar. I grew up with his mother, his aunt, his uncles and his grandmother. I write in some small, unsatisfactory attempt to assuage their grief. God be with y’all.

I served with Sam this past summer at camp, and he was a blessing to be around. when I had to leave the team early for a death in the family, Sam was the one who prayed over me and reminded me that God was with me and that I had fellow believers standing by me and affirming the goodness of God to me. Sam was truly a man of God who labored for his kingdom. I am beyond blessed to have been around him for even just a few short months. This loss hurts, but knowing he pointed people to Jesus constantly in his life, and is now with him is the best comfort.

I am so sorry for your loss and praying for your family. I remember Sam well from when I worked at LCA. He was an outgoing, funny, happy little guy when I used to see him. He could always make me laugh. I know he will be missed.

Tammy and Ronnie, my heart aches for you! Isaiah 57:1 Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.. Love and prayers, Missy Carter
