Mary McLaren Barton
Mary McLaren Barton, 84, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Gladys McLaren and the wife of Jay Grant Barton for 62 years.
Mrs. Barton was born on June 20, 1938, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Mary graduated from Duke University in 1960 with a degree in education. She worked as a teacher for 27 years and was the Resource Coordinator at the Presbytery of the Peaks and Blue Ridge.
Mrs. Barton was a longstanding member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg where she was a Deacon and an Elder. She was Clerk of Session and the first woman chair of the Diaconate at First Presbyterian.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Barton is survived by her children; Brent Barton, Chris Barton (Paula Barton), and Pamela Barton Cohen (David Cohen); her grandchildren, Sophia Clark, Aaron Barton, and Eliot and Daniel Cohen.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barton is predeceased by her siblings, Kathy Pritchard, Peggy Miller, and Michael McLaren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
